Doing One Thing Well

On Friday nights it used to be my tradition to get chicken and bakes (balls of dough fried in oil) from a lady nearby.

She cooks it in a small board shack in two pots of oil on a gas stove…..

The same way her grandmother did in the same building, and taught her how to do it.

The interesting thing is she’s always busy! Usually if I don’t come in the early evening (5:00) she will have a long line of people in front of me.

The reason why is she does two things (chicken and bakes) VERY WELL!

The lady goes out of her way to sell her food cheap. I bought four chicken legs and $5 worth of bakes last Friday night for $15. A two-piece meal at the local KFC with less food is over $25!

She also is really good at cooking that food because she was taught by her grandmother who cooked in the same building. And she’s continuing the tradition by training her niece (I don’t believe she has children).

Walking home from her shop Friday I was reminded we often try to do too many things in life. Success doesn’t begin with an extensive strategic plan, it begins by doing one thing well.
