Following the end of a class at the Bible College in January 20021, we took some pictures just for fun.
And doing so we ended up with my favorite picture of myself
Now I am not a person who likes pictures of himself. Honestly I’m not very big on taking selfies. But this picture always holds a special place in my heart.
That’s probably because of it’s simplicity
Nothing fancy….
Just a big smile
And my Bible!
Photos usually are used to emphasize things about ourselves, or make us look good. There’s nothing wrong with that really.
But that picture in 2021 wasn’t really about John Wilburn. Instead it was about the calling that God had placed upon my life to preach, and teach the Word of God.
I find myself using that picture as a profile a lot. It’s in the header of my prayer updates to this day! This is partially because that’s a decent picture of me. But more than that it symbolizes the focus of ministry is explaining God’s Truth.
Social Media and texting apps such as WhatsApp are built upon “brands” or what people embrace as their identity. Some try to make people laugh, others discuss cultural issues, some use it for online debate.
If I could use this pic as my permanent profile I could (I choose not to because its three years old).
Because it makes clear the brand isn’t John Wilburn
The brand is God’s Truth
