I was walking by a local Church yesterday morning and heard the Principal of a local school the Lord allows me to volunteer in shouting my name.
She apologized for not letting me know beforehand, but they were about to start the school year with a church service and asked me to attend.
The service was an incredibly encouraging experience! From a ten-year-old girl I disciple doing a Scripture reading, to a prayer for the children of Saint Vincent, and a message on this being a time to “renew and restart,”
I walked away with a smile on my face knowing this world is indeed dark, but there is still light.
There is no doubt the world today is dark as it seems like “wickedness wins” everywhere we turn. All of this sin and darkness can discourage our hearts into thinking the Lord isn’t at work.
But the Lord is indeed at work……
sometimes we just don’t see Him.
Things like that church service illustrate rays of sunlight that pierce through the darkness of this world. Rays of light that say, “yes things are bad, but God is still doing a work.
The important thing is for us to seek out those rays of sunlight in the darkness.
Often that light isn’t an exciting experience like starting a school year with Church.
- it is a heart open to God’s truth
- It’s confession, followed by repentance
- it’s someone who decides to do the right thing, and doesn’t back down
- It’s a kind word, or act of hospitality
It’s a life where God is at work.
The Christian life (and ministry) is rough sometimes because we can be overwhelmed by the darkness. So the Lord gives us small reminders of His grace that break that darkness.
