On Christmas eve, we had a service at Church. And after everyone had left, I took a picture of our Christmas tree and lights with the ceiling lights off.
Partly because it was beautiful……
and partly because it illustrated our call to be a light in the darkness.
The world today is very dark because Satan is allowed to control it. Sometimes it seems as if wickedness reigns everywhere we look. Sadly, this is true of this earth because it has been cursed from the moment Adam and Even were thrown out of Eden. We as Christians long for the new heaven and earth where Christ will reign eternally.
The lights in this picture illustrate the coming of Christ as a baby. Jesus of course came in order to give His own life for mankind. But with the incarnation He entered into the dark, sinful world.
Christ’s sinless life was a bright shining light in the darkness…..
His death and resurrection was an explosion of light!!!!
Christmas will always be a reminder for Christians that Jesus entered into our messed up world to Redeem us.
And we enter into our messed up world with the Gospel of Christ.
Christmas lights are always nice when all of the lights are on. But its only in the dark that the lights can truly be breathtaking. And the darkness of this world is a spectacular setting for the Gospel to be proclaimed as well as lived.
The point we must not be intimidated by the darkness.
We must enter into it with the Gospel.
Of course, this doesn’t mean we live just like the wicked, or act as if sin isn’t a terrible thing. But we do approach sinners with the Word of God, and a testimony of obedience.
This world is incredibly dark, and getting darker each day.
So we must let our light shine
