One day a week (usually Tuesday) I go into Kingstown to run errands and get needed items. Often, I’ll stop at a local Subway for a pepperoni pizza to eat for breakfast (I know that’s a strange breakfast, but I like pizza).
yesterday I stepped up to order, but the worker said “Pizza right?”……
I laughed when she even remembered I always ordered the pepperoni!
She remembered me because I am a white man (this isn’t a racist thing, there just isn’t a lot of us) but mostly because I always ordered the same thing. And probably I came at pretty much the same time, often on the same day of the week.
While enjoying my pizza breakfast yesterday I was reminded simple pleasures of life can bring great joy.
Often, we look for happiness in big things like money, the latest technology, or a comfortable life. It’s true these things do bring joy. But there are smaller everyday experiences that can also produce happiness.
- a glass of cold water on a hot day
- a favorite snack
- a nap in the afternoon
- a talk with a loved one
Sadly, we often hurry by those happiness moments because life makes us busy.
And lose the opportunity to thank God for the simple pleasures he brings into life.
So yes work hard
but take the time to eat pizza for breakfast
and when they remember the pizza order for you just smile.
