Small Problems Become Big Ones

Recently my van was getting a bit of work done at the mechanic. So because I was without it for a few days, the young pastor who has my car (He will buy it soon) brought it for me to use.

He had warned me that the radiator of the car had been cracked in December. But not having the money to buy a new part, he had fixed it temporarily. At the time there was no leak, but I needed to keep an eye on it.

Sure enough one Sunday morning I stepped out of the car after pulling it around to church. And found a stream of fluid at my feet. Peeking underneath the car I could clearly see dripping from what appeared to be the radiator.

The next week a mechanic friend confirmed my concerns……

It was a small leak from the radiator.

He emphasized that the leak wasn’t serious (didn’t drip at all times) so the car was definitely drivable. I could just add coolant when necessary till the leak became more serious.

But instead I got on the phone with parts places, and the next day got a new radiator.

Because small problems become big ones!

I knew my friend would drive the car to an area of St. Vincent outside of Kingstown (what we call country). Putting that kind of pressure on the car with long drives was sure to make the leak worse. Soon the heavy driving would lead to a radiator blowing completely.

So we fixed the problem when it was small.

Life is filled with small problems or challenges that God calls us to deal with. The temptation is to say “That’s a small thing! I can deal with it later.” Yet before we know it, that small problem becomes a massive one that cannot be fine easily.

The thing is it’s much EASIER to deal with a small drip than with a massive blowout. This is why God in His sovereignty gives us warnings about a small problem or need. He wants us to fix it NOW before it becomes a huge problem.

Trust me I didn’t want to replace my radiator, but did anyways.

Because dealing with a drip now saves me from dealing with a much more serious problem later.
