Last week was a pretty rough one for me physically. I struggled a lot with soreness, lack of energy, and pain in my legs.
It took a while for me to figure out what the problem was…
I wasn’t drinking enough water!
In a tropical climate few things are more important than hydration. Especially for someone like me who sweats a lot. It isn’t just drinking that’s important however. It is WHAT you drink!
The water I lose from sweat must be replenished by pure, drinking water.
And lots of it!
By habit I drink water more than anything else by far. And make sure to boil my water before drinking it. You can drink the water here, but it has impurities that affect my stomach.
The problem wasn’t my not drinking water…I waited too long before drinking it.
The sun was brutal last week (even for the Caribbean) so I should have added to my water intake. Foolishly I didn’t and paid a price physically.
Saturday morning, I realized lack of proper hydration was my problem. Since then I’ve been drinking RIDICULOUS amounts of water, and have seen my energy return. Also, my aches and pains have almost completely vanished!
The spiritual connection here is that we as Christians must crave, and drink deeply from Christ. The living water.
This world is filled with challenges, and temptations that will quickly drain us dry spiritually. So we must have a constant relationship with Christ through the Word of God and prayer.
It is silly to think drinking water once a day would help me in the heat.
And its also silly to think reading Scripture once a day (and not thinking about it) would help me face Satan’s attacks.
Water intake is constant….
and so is our relationship with Christ.
This morning before leaving for Kingstown I filled my faithful Yeti bottle with ice, and brought along a two-litre bottle of water (with some lemon juice).
That won’t taste as good as the coke I usually drink in town.
But it will help me a lot more than the coke.
