Last week I started a new habit that seems little…but it’s actually huge.
If I keep repeating this habit with the the Lord’s help it will totally revolutionize my life
What is that habit?
It’s using notecards!
The older I get, the more I believe distraction is one of the most popular (and least talked about) sins in the world. The work of God is to for lack of a better term boring as we repeat the same habits over and over. Satan knows this. So he offers something more exciting, or comfort (stop working to do something fun) as a distraction.
Rejecting these kinds of distractions takes willpower
but it also takes a plan.
Understand I’m not saying we cannot have fun. But our generation is one of the most distracted (if not THE most distracted) ever! If we took the time to evaluate how much time was spent on work, and how much time was spent being distracted (scrolling, watching videos, etc) it would scare us.
At least it scares me!!!
Which is where the notecards come in.
In the past I used lots of software to make lists since it was easier to add items. These tools are wonderful. But it’s just too easy to become distracted by something else on your device. One glance at the list of my phone shows me emails that need responses, notifications, and websites that beg to be clicked.
So I went entirely old-school with a stack of notecards and a pen that with one glance can remind me what needs to be done. And no distractions!!
The thing about writing things down on a notecard is it doesn’t give you the adrenaline rush texting, social media, or even responding to emails does. It only focuses on the work….but that’s the point.
The Christian life isn’t about one exciting experience after another.
It’s faithfully doing the work of God in quiet excellence.
One notecard at a time.
