After the busyness of boxing up everything, visiting my sending church, and taking my boxes to the shipper in recent days….I had a much slower day yesterday.
Actually, it could be described as boring!
But that’s okay…..
because the boring days are used by God.
Yesterday was filled with errands, going to the gym, running in the community, and spending time with my parents. So, by boring I mean doing the normal things without huge experiences.
There was a time (particularly in the beginning of ministry) when I viewed “boring days” as a bad thing. In my mind, missions was non-stop adventures and mountaintop experiences. What I learned is the adventures aren’t everyday experiences. Instead, missions is usually (gasp) boring!
Once the initial shock passed, I realized boring days are actually a blessing!
- They are opportunities to slow down and focus on the Lord
- To remember His past blessings upon my life
- Rest physically and mentally
- Spend time with family and friends
- And plan for the future
The truth is I need a few boring days. Because once I get back to Saint Vincent, my days will be busy!!
So, I am grateful for the days of slow, boring activity. Because they remind me my identity isn’t found in activity. It is found in Christ.
