It Doesn’t Stay Cute

In February 2020 my cat disappeared during the night. After not finding her outside I began a careful search of the house itself.

I eventually found her in a closet….

With a litter of kittens!

That first litter of kittens was very cute and adorable. I proceeded to have a zoom call with family members so my nieces and nephew could each name one, and took lots of pictures as they began running around the house.

But while the kittens were very cute at first, they didn’t stay that way!

It didn’t take long for me to discover that giving kittens away is harder than it looks since not everyone wants one. More importantly, my cat continued to become pregnant with one litter after another! It finally got to the point where I had her neutered so no more kittens would come.

Those kittens are much like sin we see in the lives of others (particularly young children).

At first that sinful action can be something cute or funny…..

but it doesn’t stay that way.

  1. The child who says no to you when they are little becomes a rebellious teenager
  2. The child who is lazy becomes a young man or woman who takes no responsibility in life
  3. The child who tells a “little white lie” becomes someone who cannot be trusted

The important thing for us to do is deal with the sin when it is small and cute. Far too many parents or guardians let sin grow into a serious problem, and by the time they are ready to deal with it, that cute sin has become a fire-breathing dragon.

May the Lord help us deal with the small sins in our lives, and the lives of others.

Because it won’t be cute forever
