The Bible conference I attended in February was a blessing because it reminded me I’m not the only one who experiences the attacks of Satan. But the second blessing is actually more important.
It reminded me my goal is evangelism, and discipleship
Now this isn’t exactly a huge surprise because Scripture clearly teaches us that the Great Commission is our calling. But it’s far too easy to become distracted or confused by focusing on too many goals. Programs can become the focus of ministry instead of just reaching the lost for Christ.
One of the first messages really spoke to me because the preacher emphasized the “old school” techniques of tract distribution, visitation, and bringing the unsaved to Church through vans or busses.
That messages power came from the fact that these techniques aren’t anything new. Instead they have been there for many years.
But they still worked!!!
The thing about evangelism is it’s hard, but not complicated. The process is actually quite simple! Develop relationships with the unsaved through visitation, share the Gospel, bring them to church, and allow the Holy Spirit to save them! Now of course that process is actually very hard because it takes lots of work and patience!
The problem is we can often make ministry complicated and get away from the simplicity of evangelism. Go to the lost and share Christ.
There are definitely a lot of roles and responsibilities for missionaries. But none should be more important than simply go and share.
I’m not saying we don’t need strategic plans, goals, or visions for ministry. Yet those should help us effectively go and share instead of replacing going and sharing. For anything that leads us away from those two goals weakens our ministry.
