Missions is offering Something Sweeter

Last Friday I came to visit a young lady who attends one of my discipleship groups. As I walked into the gate her father was cutting upon a drinking coconut (seen above). Basically this is done by cutting off the sides, and top of the coconut with a cutlass.

As I walked up he turned and handed it to me with a smile

and I immediately began to drink!

I realize that coconut water is sold in the store. But trust me when I say it’s noting compared to the water from the coconut that you just cut open. It’s just sweeter!

The young lady and other children knew fresh coconut water was sweet as well so they immediately began holding out their hands for a drink (of course I gave them one). Later see split it open, and they feasted on the coconuts jelly.

Drinking from that coconut couldn’t help but be reminded that Christ is sweeter than anything this world offers.

Children often love to have diets filled with junk food such as chips, soda, or cookies. But when someone comes with a fresh drinking coconut they reach for it instead because they knows that is much sweeter (and better for them) than junk food.

In the same way many souls feast on the worlds junk food, and have sadly become addicted to the taste of it. They have forgotten the sweetness of the Gospel, and the truths of Scripture.

So we keep sharing the living water…..and encourage them to drink

It reminds me of the Hymn that begins like this

“All my life I had panted

For a drink from some clear spring,

That I hoped would quench the burning

Of the thirst I felt within.”

And then comes the chorus

“Hallelujah! I have found Him

Whom my soul so long has craved!

Jesus satisfies my longings,

Through His blood I now am saved.”

The Lord calls us to go into a world gorging on junk, and proclaim that Christ is sweeter
