A Leak in the Yard

Saturday morning I had a plumber come to install some new water pipes to replace one that had sprung a leak (you can read more about that in yesterdays post).

Unfortunately, we later discovered that all the piping in the front yard had to be replaced by the landlord.

This was annoying, but I could deal with it

The second setback on Sunday was harder to take.

Saturday afternoon I noticed a very small leak coming from behind the water meter. This was something that had to be fixed by the water authority since nobody was allowed to tamper with the meter.

Sunday night I walked out my gate on the way to Church, and noticed tons of water in the road. It didn’t take long to realize to water was pouring out of my wall.

The water meter had busted, and was spewing water everywhere!

Monday morning workers from the water authority came, took one look at my meter, and asked “who did this?” Evidently the plumber had installed my pipe directly into the meter instead of using a connecting piece. So the pressure of turning the water on and off from the new pipe that was installed Saturday ended up blowing the meter itself.

They proceeded to give me a speech about the dangers of letting people tamper with my water meter, one I repeated for the plumber after they had left. Thankfully the workers fixed the meter instead of disconnecting it, which they could have done.

Monday afternoon I was reminded sometimes more than one thing will go wrong. When it rains (and pours) it’s difficult to see the blessing of God while everything is going wrong.

But there is a blessing

Because people see your character under pressure

I was pretty upset with the plumber because he got me in trouble with the water authority and caused more problems. My anger grew when the workers explained he had done this kind of thing many times before and was warned about it.

I had every right to yell at the man

But instead I calmly confronted him about his foolish mistake

because I knew people were watching

It’s one thing to be calm when things are good, its another to be calm when your busted water meter is shooting water into the air!!!

I’m thankful that the Lord gave grace on Monday so my testimony could shine brightly even when the rain poured down.
