Next month I have a group from Trinidad and Tobgo coming to do Vacation Bible School for us. A Big part of preparation for this trip is organizing housing. With the Lord’s help, we reserved a local school for them to use during their time with us.
Then the team asked if it was possible to get mattresses.
This of course would help greatly since it would make things more comfortable. The only other option would be to purchase pieces of foam for them to sleep on. However, purchasing mattresses for each one of the members of the team would be very expensive.
A friend told me that the Ministry of education did have mattresses that could be loaned out for a short period of time. So in May I visited the ministry with a letter requesting 14 mattresses (we have 12 people coming).
After not hearing from them at the end of June, I was concerned and went to visit the ministry. They assured me that my request was being processed.
Three days later, I got a phone call confirming that they were supplying 14 mattresses!
This experience reminded me of the words in scripture, “ ye have not because ye ask not”(James 4:2-3).
just like the Ministry of education was offering free mattresses for a short time, all you had to do was ask for them, God offers strength and help for our lives if we ask him
The problem is, we don’t ask!
far too often I find myself being satisfied doing things in my own strength instead of asking God for help. Stubborn pride will take scraps of foam instead of asking for help and accepting the mattresses.
But it is when we swallow our pride and ask for help in prayer that the Lord blesses us in incredible ways.
May the Lord help us to learn to say, help and accept God’s provision, instead of being satisfied with the foam
