The day before my brother left for the States, we decided to climb the volcano la soufriere in Saint Vincent as our last adventure.
Leading up the hike I was excited…..
but during the hike I really didn’t want to be there!
The hike itself is challenging so that by the time you get towards the top, your body will (and especially your legs) will be weak. However, the last part of the hike is most challenging since going up the volcano itself involves stepping on a combination of volcanic ash and rock, which can easily make your foot slip.
the picture at the top of this post is just before the summit of la soufriere. The people at the far left had actually reached it already. When this picture was taken my body was very weak, and I was honestly questioning whether or not the hike was worth it.
Then I reached the summit!

The breathtaking view of the volcano, along with the joy of conquering it with my brother was well worth the pain of the journey up.
The hike up la soufriere in many ways illustrates the Christian life. God’s Road is hard, but it’s worth it! Following the Lord means experiencing suffering, temptations, trials, and persecutions. At times it is easy to lose heart or ask “is this worth it?” during the climb like my trip up the volcano. But when we reach the top, we realize it most definitely is.
in the same way our suffering on this earth will be nothing compared to the Glory of eternity!
So be encouraged brother and sister as you continue to wearily climb.
Gods road is indeed hard
But it’s worth it.
