Last Friday I went to pick up fourteen mattresses for the ministry team from Trinidad and Tobago that will be coming this afternoon to do VBS, and a crusade in the evenings.
I had done everything in my power to ensure picking up the mattresses would go smoothly (even visited the people on Tuesday to say when I’d come)
But almost didn’t get them!
I arrived at 3:00 Friday as promised, but the truck was delayed. This is actually common since those who drive trucks do a number of jobs each day. He arrived at 3:45 and we went to the front desk. They told us that the man who was supposed to open the warehouse had already left, and they couldn’t open it themselves!
In that moment the truck driver was calm, but also frustrated because this meant he had come all that way for nothing. The men who would help him deliver those mattresses were trying to find any other way to get the warehouse open, but couldn’t.
I actually wasn’t nervous at all….
Because I had the phone number of someone at the Ministry of Education who ran that warehouse.
I called and calmly explained the situation. She transferred me to someone else, who then transferred me to someone else 🙂 The third person didn’t answer, so they asked me not to leave the warehouse area.
Ten minutes later they called to say the worker was coming with our keys!
This experience is one of many that has used to teach me a simple lesson. God’s got this! In other words, Being a Christian doesn’t mean we don’t face challenges or setbacks. It does mean God is with us in those setbacks.
Think about all of the things that the Lord worked out
- I had the personal phone number of someone at the Ministry of Education
- She answered when I called probably because she recognized my phone number, and knew I was supposed to get mattresses Friday
- I still had the phone number in my bag (without it we couldn’t have gotten help)
- And the man who opened the warehouse wasn’t far away.
I drove away Friday knowing that whatever drama I face each day, God will give the grace to face it.
