A few weeks ago we replaced the palm plants that were planted in the church with new (smaller) plants. The original plants were planted in the yard behind the church.
Though the original plants were still good, we chose to replace them.
Because our Anniversary service was coming up
It’s been just over a week since we celebrated the twenty-fifth anniversary of Tabernacle Baptist Church. Twenty-five years ago Pastor Alan Berry and his wife Beverly moved from a tent into the church building.
We honored the Berry’s and God’s goodness over the last twenty-five years on August 24. But also looked towards the future.
Symbolically the new palm plant is our dedication to stay faithful to the calling that of Pastor and Mrs. Berry in 1998. And also grow into the future.
In other words we rejoice in the past…
But we never live in it.
The thing about growth is it must be constant. We never leave the foundation of Doctrine and convictions that has been laid. But the methods, programs, and outreaches should change over time as we effectively serve the Lord.
The important thing is never being satisfied with where we are, because the Lord has called us to keep following Him.
So we look back and God’s blessings
and rejoice in His goodness
but then we plant a new palm
and continue growing.
