One of my goals for 2024 is to make prayer a more consistent habit in my life. This doesn’t mean I don’t pray, but prayer needs to be something done continually instead of when I am under stress.
This points out one of my biggest mistake with prayer……
I pray when I truly need something.
Of course prayer is about sharing our burdens with God! But that isn’t the primary purpose. The main goal of prayer is to refocus ourselves upon the Lord. We quiet our hearts in worship through times of prayer.
Jesus began the Lords Prayer with “Our Father which art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.” This reminds us of Gods Love (our Father), His sovereignty (which art in Heaven) and His sacredness (Halllowed be thy name).
Often life distracts us from the character of God. We focus our eyes on the circumstances we experience, and no longer notice Gods good, sovereign, and worthy of worship.
Prayer is used by God to remind us of His character and presence as we quiet our hearts before Him.
So we don’t pray when we are in need.
We pray when we are distracted.
Which is most of the time!!!
I am so grateful for the privilege to bring you requests before the Lord. But more precious are the moments when in the midst of trials or drama I can through the Holy Spirit cry out to my Father.
