Missions is Giving Away Your Chocolate

A lot of you know that one of my goals during furlough is to stay in shape. Missions is physically demanding work, so coming back ten to fifteen pounds overweight will damage my ministry!

Honestly, I’m not doing too bad

Until about 7:00 at night!!!!!

For some reason I am used to snacking in the evenings. This is just a habit that was developed over time since we relax at night. And when we relax we eat!

My problem is my choice of snack was neither healthy, nor controlled (in small amount). It was the chocolate that I’d put on my display table. Almost every evening the fun-size kit-kats (I have a weakness for them) would call my name.

Of course I’d tell myself “I will only eat one.”

But who are we kidding!!!

I would always end up with a pile of chocolate wrappers in front of me.

Of course, eating chocolate isn’t a sin….but if it hinders me from doing the Lords work it was a problem. So the question was, “how do I keep from eating the chocolate?” The answer came from a simple truth.

I don’t have enough will-power not to eat it!!!

We face many temptations in life, and sadly fail many of them. While there are many reasons for this, one of the most common is we rely on our will-power. After failure our response is “I will just try harder tomorrow!” But the same thing happens tomorrow!!!!

What is the solution?

To separate ourselves from the temptation.

Yesterday afternoon I gave my mom the remainer of my chocolate with specific instructions to hide it, and under NO CIRCUMSTANCES give any of it to me. Yes, that was a bit drastic. But it was also what needed to be done.

Because I am not strong enough to face temptation on my own.
