A Place to Rest

A Place to Rest

A few weeks ago, I visited Fellowship Baptist Church in Eden NC, and Pastor Gene McDuffie with his wife. It was a wonderful time of fellowship with them and sharing during the morning service what God is doing in Saint Vincent. They graciously gave reading-glasses, and other gifts for me to bring back.

But the most moving part for me was where I spent the night!

Pastor McDuffie told me they had a prophet’s chamber at the church. For those of you who may not know what that is, it’s a room reserved for visiting speakers or missionaries at the church. This is not only a wonderful form of hospitality, but also makes it easier for the missionary and church. Often there aren’t hotels nearby.

I came into the prophet’s chamber expecting a comfortably furnished room.

but was shocked to see one that would put hotels to shame!!!

Pastor McDuffie explained that when they had this room set-up, he made sure it was done in the most luxurious way possible. It was the churches way of honoring Missionaries and Pastors a place of not only comfort, but peace and quiet.

Ministry is a wonderful privilege but is also VERY STRESSFULL! God gives grace in those moments of anxiety. But sometimes it’s necessary to have a place where we can rest, refocus, and draw closer to the Lord. Yes, the house is a place of rest for us. But it’s easy to be overwhelmed there by things that need to get done.

We need a home away from home

We need a place of rest.

Pastor McDuffie told me Missionaries and Pastor will often come stay in their prophets chamber for a few days of rest. It’s wonderful that Fellowship Baptist has created this refuge for those who serve the Lord.

Thank you Pastor McDuffie for refreshing my heart with your special room.

And keeping the door open.
