Simple Things Can be Meaningful

About two weeks ago, I was staying at the home of a family while taking part in their churches missions conference. It was a time of wonderful fellowship, and spending time with old friends as well as missionaries.

While drinking my coffee the wife asked if I would like sausage gravy and biscuits for breakfast….

Of course my answer was an enthusiastic yes!!

There are certain things that you cannot get in Saint Vincent. And sausage gravy is definitely one of them! Of course I don’t blame them for this because that’s a food generally found in the south. And they don’t make it much.

Eating my second helping of sausage gravy (don’t judge me) I was reminded how simple things can be the most meaningful.

As a missionary the Lord has blessed me with churches and prayer partners who have given sacrificially. Over and over again they have ministered to both me, and the people of Saint Vincent with their generosity.

While I am incredibly grateful for all of those gifts….those biscuits and sausage gravy are what stick in my mind.

Maybe thats because it brought back memories of my mom or grandmother fixing a country breakfast in the past.

But mostly because I hadn’t had it in the long time (editors note: I did have sausage gravy at a holiday inn, but in my mind that doesn’t count as real sausage gravy).

We usually think of hospitality as a huge gift or sacrificial act. And it is sometimes!

But other times it’s the simple act of making a hearty southern breakfast that a missionary hasn’t had in a long time.
