From Island Roads to Highways

There were a few culture shocks when I returned to the States for furlough, but no doubt about the biggest one.

It was starting to drive on American Roads!!!

I am used to driving on the roads of Saint Vincent which are lovingly called “island roads” . They are small, and filled with lots of blind curves. So you spend much of the time going 40 to 50 miles per hour.

Compare this with the US highways where you drive AT LEAST 60!

The high speed of traffic, as well as the amount of traffic, made it a pretty big fear for me. Especially since we don’t have many tractor-trailer trucks in SVG.

The only way to fix this fear is just going out and driving!

Which is why I am thankful for Righteous Rides.

The Righteous Rides organization (https://righteousrides.org/) leases out vehicles to missionaries at a very reasonable cost. These vehicles are all high quality (I got a Dodge Grand Caravan) and dependable.

The provision of that wonderful vehicle gave me the confidence to go on some trips to churches. And with each trip, my confidence grew.

Last week I drove up and down highway 81 (very congested and filled with crazy drivers). But my mind and my heart was calm because I’d gotten used to the roads

The Lord used Righteous Rides to remind me the best way to deal with our fears is to face them head on.
