A few mornings ago, I was walking down the main road of town, and heard a familiar voice call out my name.
Once I heard it….my heart sank.
The voice was from a woman who is suffering from cancer. Though she feels strong, there’s nothing that can be done at this point. It’s simply a matter of time.
I had been visiting her regularly to read Scripture and pray.
but then life got busy…..
and the sad truth is, I kind of forgot her.
Seeing her reminded me how easy it is to forget those individuals who are either seriously ill, or cannot get around on their own easily anymore. We don’t MEAN to forget them, but the busyness of life keeps them from coming to mind.
and this is incredibly sad, because individuals like that especially need fellowship.
This morning I did visit her (and apologized for not coming lately). But first went to meet a friend who last year, had part of his foot cut off. Thankfully he’s able to walk around a bit without serious pain, but it’s been a hard road.
As we read Scripture and talked about life, he started looking back on 2025. Tears welled up in his eyes as he thanked me for visiting him during a very “dark year.” All I did was visit, and occasionally help purchase some groceries. But just being there was a tremendous source of strength.
I’m thankful for Gods reminder that many people are forgotten by society. And the most loving thing we can do is remember them.
