I work a lot with children in Saint Vincent because they are the leaders of our next generation. But I also work with them because Satan targets young people. This is done in many ways, but especially through apps such as TikTok on tablets and phones.
This kind of influence introduces children to worldly ideas at an incredibly young age….
and it destroys their innocence.
So a big part of my ministry is to isolate young people from those kinds of ideas.
Of course I don’t mean cutting them off from the world completely! Instead, it’s giving them a safe place. A place where they can play outside, become friends, have arguments (then make up), and occasionally be silly.
In other words, a place where they can be kids!!!!
And a place where there are rules that defend their innocence.
This idea of a safe place is precious to me since many children in SVG (and around the world) don’t have one.
It goes something like this…..
- mom is at home with the youngest child (I don’t blame her for this)
- Dad is often either not there, or only there occassionally
- With nobody to provide structure, the older children go do what they want
Life without rules is fun at first…..
But it has a very heavy price tag.
Friday while playing games with some kids we encountered some “school drama”. A girl who had a dispute with another young lady rushed her in the road and started fighting. I immediately broke it up, and explained to the girl that there would be absolutely no fighting in front of the church (she knew this already).
Some people believe that rules like this will drive them away. The interesting thing is it brings them!!! Children in their hearts want a place where someone loves them enough to clarify and enforce rules. A place where they won’t allow Satan to enter into their minds.
A place where they are safe to be kids.
