Be Frugal, but not Cheap

I am a cheap person (I prefer to term frugal). This isn’t meant for greed, but so ministry can be stronger. My way of saying it is, “I am frugal so that I can be generous.

This isn’t a bad thing…..

but there is a difference between frugal and cheap.

allow me to explain

Frugal is careful with money so that it can be invested in others, and yourself when needed. Cheap is a lifestyle that refuses to spend money on yourself….or always chooses the cheapest way of life. A cheap lifestyle sometimes believes you don’t DESERVE nice things!

Recently the Lord helped me realize I had drifted from being frugal, to being cheap.

The truth is, some things in life cannot be cheap. Our health, vehicles, appearance, and other things are worth investing in. While on the mission field I did not invest in these things the way God wanted me to (though there was money).

In a way I’d become used to choosing the cheapest thing at all times….and that was wrong.

This realization brought some conviction, and a rededication to investing money in things that are important.

Walking out of a store with an expensive sports coat (it WAS on sale!) I was thankful the Lord reminded me some things are worth investing in.

And it’s not a sin to buy something expensive.
