I have been slipping lately, but with the Lords help am focusing on my health again
Around New Years day, I was visiting with some children. We were using my phone to take pictures of them with their Christmas presents, and one of them (without my knowing) took a quick pic of me.
I took one look at the picture and made a face…..
because it showed how overweight I was.
The truth is I’ve been working on my physical health recently and lost some weight. In fact I was kind of feeling proud of myself….till I saw the picture! But the photo showed me how things really were.
Life is like that sometimes
We are working towards a goal and begin to think that we are doing better than we really are.
It’s only a long hard look into the mirror (or a picture) that shows us the truth.
It’s tempting to lie to ourselves all of the time and just go on being deceived. Yet, it is better to know and embrace the hard truth (like you need to lose ten pounds or so) than to not change at all.
The Word of God is like that unflattering picture or full view mirror. The Holy Spirit uses it with the power of God to cut through our excuses and reveal the sinful heart. As we read and study Scripture, He (the Holy Spirit) turns a 2,000 lumen light upon that part of our life that we are trying to hide.
It is embarrassing to see our sinfulness clearly
but only then can we work on it.
Following New Years I dedicated myself to a new eating plan, and training program. This was motivated by a desire to be healthy, But it was mostly motivated by a picture that proves I am indeed very unhealthy.
