Walk Before You Run

Walk Before You Run

A little over a week ago I bought some Brooks Ghost running shoes. Surprisingly they made me a little bit nostalgic since I’ve run countless number of miles with Brooks shoes.

I purchased them with a goal of running in them someday….

but first, I have to walk.

The problem about growth is that it comes slowly. We expect to be sprinting down the road after the first week, but we are still trudging along (at a very slow pace). Normally after two or three weeks without big changes we give up.

The problem actually has to do with our goals.

Because the goal isn’t to sprint.

it is to walk.

Yes, someday the final goal is to run for exercise. But that’s going to take a while! Till our bodies get to that point we must have a short-term goal. That goal is to simply walk. If we walked today, we were successful! It’s actually simpler than that because if we invest in good running shoes that will help us walk effectively, then we’ve accomplished a goal!!

My point is we sometimes become so discouraged by the massiveness of the task (like running) that we don’t even try.

I’m not sure what big dreams God has placed in your heart friends, or what massive goals He has called you to. But I know you’ll never accomplish His plan if you never start.
