When the Music Ends

When the Music Ends

Last Friday night, the community where I live had a monthly celebration that ends in the early hours of the morning (1:00 AM).

It’s common to see people drunkenly stumbling home around 6:00 in the morning.

Last Saturday, I watched a man who obviously had too much to drink, trying to get home. He could only take three or four steps before having to sit down, or lean on the wall.

Eventually, I took his picture…..

Because my heart broke for him.

Many men especially in Saint Vincent are consumed by alcohol, and marijuana. There isn’t much work in my community, so it’s just easier to indulge themselves.

But the real reason they drink or smoke is to forget

Many of those addicted are miserable. But when they are drinking or smoking, they feel good. So their money is invested in things that can make them forget.

The problem with that is their happiness doesn’t last.

I’m sure that man was probably enjoying himself at 9:00 or 10:00 Friday night. But 6:00 Saturday morning, he was more miserable than ever.

May the Lord give me a deeper burden for those who struggling with addiction.

And offer them the living water that truly satisfies.

Very true. Addictions seem rampant and spiritually devastating.
